The change, announced Monday, will see Spider-Man play in select digital Imax locations starting Aug. 6, while The Odyssey continues in all 41 Imax 70mm venues worldwide. Imax CEO Rich Gelfond cited Spider-Man's $355 million second-biggest opening weekend ever and the franchise's $365 million in cumulative Imax receipts.

"Spider-Man has been among the most bankable superheroes at the global box office for over two decades, Gelfond said. The move follows Spider-Man's strong international Imax performance, including $19 million in China, a record $2.4 million opening in South Korea, and $2.2 million in Japan. The Odyssey, which has generated $221 million in Imax global box office, will play through at least Sept. 17, with upcoming debuts in South Korea, China, and Japan."
