The FA Will Write to Fifa Confirming It No Longer Backs Infantino for a Fourth Term, After Previously Endorsing Him
The FA will write to Fifa confirming it no longer backs Infantino for a fourth term, after previously endorsing him. This follows the Welsh FA's decision to drop its backing. More European nations are expected to follow, aiming to force his resignation.
Finland's FA was the first to withdraw support last week. Uefa federations have been preparing a mass withdrawal of letters, with all but five of Europe's 55 member associations having backed Infantino before his privately backed plan to sell a World Cup stake was revealed. The FA has consistently condemned his doomed Fifa Forward Enterprise scheme and on Saturday called for a "full and robust review of Fifa's leadership and governance.
The FA is not expected to publicise its withdrawal letter, as the movement to unseat Infantino needs momentum on other continents. Opposition in Europe is likely, but his future may hinge on leadership from the Asian Football Confederation and Concacaf. The Football Association of Wales confirmed Monday it no longer supports Infantino, stating he has lost its confidence due to failures in governance, leadership, and judgment. Welsh representatives, including Uefa vice-president Laura McAllister, have advocated a Europe-led boycott of Fifa competitions if the FFE scheme was not scrapped."
