He Acknowledged That While Some Athletes Are Open, He Prefers to Keep His Distance From Rivals

Josh Kerr spent more than half an hour after his Commonwealth Games mile victory posing for selfies and signing autographs, a stark contrast to his intense on-track persona. The Scottish runner, who broke the mile world record last month, admitted he stayed until everyone left, joking that a 6pm coffee would keep him up anyway. Kerr, who had only 15 minutes of sleep before our interview, shared insights into his training and red-light therapy, but remained guarded about his personal life, saying he doesn't want to drag his family into the spotlight.
He acknowledged that while some athletes are open, he prefers to keep his distance from rivals. In the race, Kerr was boxed in with 500m to go but surged to victory, clocking 3:42. He dismissed concerns, saying he has great speed and was running in front of a home crowd, with only Jake Wightman as a potential threat. Kerr believes he's on a different level from current 1500m stars like Timothy Cheruiyot and Cam Myers.
After the race, he celebrated with physiotherapy from his mum, a meal from his chef, and just two chips. Kerr lives a monastic life in Albuquerque, New Mexico, training at altitude and going to bed by 8.30pm. He enjoys audiobooks and podcasts, but rarely goes out. "I was telling the kids to go to bed and telling the parents off,"
