67-Year-old Man in Edirne's Keşan District Has Died After Being Shot by His Neighbor, a Retired Police Officer, Three Days After the Attack

A 67-year-old man in Edirne's Keşan district has died after being shot by his neighbor, a retired police officer, three days after the attack. Ahmet Karagöz succumbed to his injuries at the hospital where he had been receiving treatment since the shooting on Friday at approximately 5:30 p.m. at Belkoop Konutları on Gazi Sokak in Yeni Mahalle. The incident began when a dispute erupted between Karagöz, his wife İkbal Karagöz (58), and their son Cumali Karagöz (41) on one side, and their neighbor, retired police officer Metin Karol (59), on the other, allegedly over the family sitting on a bench in the garden.

Karol went into his home, retrieved his official service pistol, and opened fire on the family as they sat on the bench. Police and medical teams were dispatched to the scene following reports of the shooting. The three wounded individuals were initially taken to Keşan State Hospital by ambulance and later transferred to Trakya University Faculty of Medicine Hospital in Edirne after receiving first aid.

Karol was taken into custody along with the weapon used in the attack and was subsequently arrested by the duty magistrate after his processing at the police station. Karagöz died at the hospital on Sunday evening. His body was placed in the hospital morgue for an autopsy.

İkbal Karagöz remains in critical condition, while her son Cumali is reported to be in good health. Karagöz's funeral is scheduled to take place at noon today in the village of Orhaniye, affiliated with Keşan.
