Turkish authorities have launched an investigation into journalist Ertuğrul Özkök on charges of insulting the president, citing remarks he made during a YouTube program. The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office opened the probe on August 2, 2026, based on statements Özkök made on journalist Bahar Feyzan's show. In the program, Özkök said: "No one should think that such regimes will continue like this; they will not.
Today's regime in Turkey is designed around Tayyip Erdoğan's personality and is a regime that is valid through his personality. There is no other second person in Turkey who can carry this regime."
