A Total Solar Eclipse Will Take Place on August 12, Followed by a Partial Lunar Eclipse on August 28

Two celestial events will occur back-to-back in August 2026, according to the 2026 Sky Events Almanac prepared by TÜBİTAK National Observatories. A total solar eclipse will take place on August 12, followed by a partial lunar eclipse on August 28. The solar eclipse will be visible from Spain, Europe and the North Atlantic, with the path of totality crossing Greenland, Iceland, Spain and a small part of northeastern Portugal. The peak is expected around 20:47 Turkish time.

However, it will not be visible from Turkey: by then the Sun will have already set below the horizon, leaving the country outside the eclipse zone. The partial lunar eclipse on August 28, by contrast, can be observed from Turkey. Astronomy enthusiasts in Turkey have been intensely asking when the eclipses will occur and whether they can be seen from the country.
