Inspections Covered Two Areas: Metrology and Industrial Products

Turkey’s Industry and Technology Ministry inspected 26,310 industrial products in the first half of the year and issued administrative fines totaling 175,898,583 lira for 2,441 non-compliant items, while ordering the recall of 105 different brands and models. The ministry conducts product safety inspections to ensure industrial goods on the market comply with technical legislation and meet human life and property safety as well as environmental standards. Inspections covered two areas: metrology and industrial products.

Elevators saw the highest number of inspections, with 9,225 checks, followed by electrical equipment with 6,698. Of the inspected items, 2,441 were found non-compliant and 232 were sent for testing, putting the overall non-compliance rate at 9.28%. The highest non-compliance rates were recorded in boilers at 42.86%, energy efficiency products at 37.97%, and elevators at 17.14%. Recall orders covered 105 different brands and models, led by automotive products with 45 and energy efficiency products with 20. In addition to the 175,898,583 lira in fines, the ministry gave manufacturers time to correct non-compliance in 238 products.

The biggest fines were applied to elevators with 106,458,656 lira, automotive products with 38,649,685 lira, and machinery with 10,607,564 lira. In the metrology field, 982,583 products were inspected and examined in six months, including 359,221 gas meters, 212,263 tachographs, 128,183 weighing instruments, 93,768 fuel and LPG meters, 57,658 taximeters, and 49,484 measurement transformers. A further 3,020 pre-packaged products were also inspected.
