Amman has publicly warned Iraq that it will launch military operations against Iran-backed militias if they attack Jordan, following a surge in regional violence in which Jordanian air defenses intercepted Iranian ballistic missiles and drones bound for US installations there. An official Jordanian source told Al-Arabiya that Jordan provided Baghdad with precise intelligence indicating pro-Iran militants are planning strikes on Jordanian territory. Amman said it expects the Iraqi government to take swift, effective measures to curb these armed groups, and identified front organizations such as Awliya al-Dam as key players in the border-threatening actions.

The warning marks a sharp shift in Jordan’s defensive posture amid rising US-Iran tensions. Jordan hosts critical Western military assets, including Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, which have become prime targets for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and its regional allies. While saying it seeks to avoid broader regional escalation, Jordan stressed that its national sovereignty and border security remain inviolable priorities.
