Armenia’s Pashinyan Government Resigns After New Parliament Convenes Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced the resignation of his government on Aug. 2, after the newly elected parliament convened its first session. In a live broadcast on his social media account, Pashinyan said the government had submitted its resignation in line with the relevant article of the Constitution as the ninth National Assembly opened its first session, Armenpress reported.

The current cabinet will remain in office until a new government is formed. The next prime minister will be appointed after the new assembly’s term begins, with the parliamentary majority proposing a candidate. Pashinyan’s Civil Contract Party won 61 of 105 seats in the parliamentary election, securing an outright majority.
