Fesco's Container Ship Yanina Sank in the Black Sea After a Drone Attack and That All 17 Crew Members Were Rescued

Rosatom, the Russian state nuclear corporation, said its subsidiary FESCO's container ship Yanina sank in the Black Sea after a drone attack and that all 17 crew members were rescued. Rosatom Director General Aleksey Likhachev said the vessel was struck by two unmanned aerial vehicles (UA Vs). “The ship was carrying civilian goods such as frozen food and construction and decoration materials in international waters.

This attack can only be described as piracy and sea robbery, he added. Likhachev said the crew abandoned the ship in an orderly manner and that all 17 were rescued in good health. Sixteen were picked up by the Delphinus, commanded by an Egyptian captain, while the last crew member was brought ashore by naval aviation units of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said attacks had targeted three Russian oil refineries as well as the Russian-flagged container ship Yanina. The vessel, about 140 meters long and 22 meters wide, had a carrying capacity of 13,000 tons. Registered at Russia’s Vladivostok port, it operated on a route between India, the United Arab Emirates and Novorossiysk.”
