Even If Years Pass, We Will Not Forget the Traitors or Their Betrayals, Çiftçi Wrote on Social Media

Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi said the capture of a FETÖ militant who took part in an assassination team targeting President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during the July 15 coup attempt marks another step toward justice. “The account of the hand extended to our President, the gun turned on our state, and the trap set for our nation will surely be settled. Even if years pass, we will not forget the traitors or their betrayals, Çiftçi wrote on social media.
He said Burkay Karatepe, sought for 10 years, was identified through meticulous police work and tracked down using MIT’s facial recognition system, then detained in an operation and handed over to authorities. A blood test showed Karatepe had 0.34 promil alcohol, and drugs were found at his hideout. Legal proceedings have begun at Muğla Provincial Police Department on charges including assassination attempt against the President, attempting to abolish or obstruct the government, murder due to public duty, violating the Military Penal Code, armed robbery of a residence at night with multiple perpetrators, drug possession, and official document forgery. Çiftçi vowed the fight against FETÖ will continue with determination.”
