California Gov. Gavin Newsom is concerned that the antitrust lawsuit filed by 12 state attorneys general led by California against Paramount’s $111 billion takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery could hurt state employment and damage the entertainment industry, according to a Friday report in The Wall Street Journal.

Sources told the Journal that Newsom has said a court-ordered block of the merger would cost jobs across the state, and his office has encouraged Attorney General Rob Bonta—who has independent authority to bring such suits—to find an out-of-court resolution. Bonta is leading the multi-state lawsuit. "Newsom’s office has encouraged Attorney General Rob Bonta’s office, which has independent authority to file such suits, to find a resolution out of court."
