The Latest Death Follows the Suicides of Two Female Soldiers Earlier This Week
Israeli Reserve Soldier Suicide Raises 2026 Army Toll to 17 A reserve soldier in the Israeli military has taken his own life near the southern city of Beersheba, bringing the number of soldiers who have died by suicide since the start of the year to 17, according to Haaretz. The newspaper reported that the soldier, who was serving in the area, was found dead yesterday in a forested area on the outskirts of Beersheba. The latest death follows the suicides of two female soldiers earlier this week.
In a previous report, Haaretz said 22 Israeli soldiers died by suicide while on duty in 2025, the highest annual figure in 15 years. Israeli media have linked the recent surge in suicides to psychological trauma stemming from the military offensive in the Gaza Strip, which began on October 8, 2023.
