The Newspaper Reported That the Soldier Died Yesterday

An Israeli reserve soldier has died by suicide in a forest near Beersheba in southern Israel, bringing the number of Israeli soldiers to have taken their own lives since the beginning of the year to 17, according to Haaretz. The newspaper reported that the soldier died yesterday. The latest death follows reports this week of two female soldiers who also died by suicide.

In an earlier report, Haaretz said 22 Israeli soldiers died by suicide while on duty in 2025, the highest annual figure recorded by the military in 15 years. In recent months, Israeli media have linked the rise in suicide cases to psychological trauma from the attacks on the Gaza Strip since Oct. 8, 2023.
