The Surge Was Fueled by Microsoft’s Cloud Business, With Azure Revenue Jumping 43% — Its Fastest Growth Since Early 2022

Microsoft has made stock market history with its latest earnings report, posting the biggest single-day market value gain in U.S. history. The company’s shares closed up more than 15% on July 30, adding roughly $450 billion to its market capitalization and pushing its total value to $3.44 trillion. That daily increase surpassed the previous record held by Nvidia and marked Microsoft’s strongest one-day share performance since October 2008. The surge was fueled by Microsoft’s cloud business, with Azure revenue jumping 43% — its fastest growth since early 2022. The company also guided for 45% constant-currency growth in Azure for the first quarter of its new fiscal year, signaling that its billions in artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure investment are starting to pay off.
Despite strong results, Microsoft made clear it is not easing up on spending: it plans roughly $50 billion in capital expenditures in the first quarter of fiscal 2027 and $175 billion across calendar 2026, with no change to those targets. The scale of the one-day gain is staggering. The $450 billion increase is larger than the total stock market capitalization of many countries, including Turkey, underscoring the magnitude of the record-setting move.
