Seoul issued its first-ever highest-level heat warning as daytime temperatures are forecast to reach 38 degrees Celsius. According to a news agency, heat has killed two people in the capital since May 15. The alert covers 11 districts in the southeast and southwest of the city. The "serious heat wave" level, added to the country's warning system on June 1, was declared for Seoul for the first time.

Heat-related illnesses in the city have risen to 185, with 18 new cases reported on Wednesday. About 4,000 locations, including social facilities, have been designated as cooling shelters. The Interior Ministry urged citizens to stay indoors, rest in cool places, and drink plenty of water.
