Samantha Morton says she hasn't worked for a year since wrapping "The Odyssey, but the film's success has renewed her hope for her career at 49. On the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast, the two-time Oscar nominee said the Christopher Nolan-directed epic, which has grossed $912 million worldwide since its July 17 opening, gave her "hope and faith that she can keep working.
Morton, who plays Circe in the film, said she "genuinely cried" when her team told her Nolan wanted to meet her. She also noted that her early work as a magician's assistant deepened her appreciation for the role, which involved transforming Odysseus' men into pigs without CGI. In a July Variety interview, she said major film roles are "few and far between" for older actresses, though she still works regularly in independent films and television.
