Love, the No. 3 Pick and Former Heisman Candidate, Had Expressed Excitement About Debuting

Arizona Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur said Wednesday that rookie running back Jeremiyah Love will not play in Thursday's NFL Hall of Fame Game against the Carolina Panthers in Canton, Ohio. Love, the No. 3 pick and former Heisman candidate, had expressed excitement about debuting. He may see action next week when the Cardinals visit the Las Vegas Raiders on Aug.
13, followed by home games against the Dallas Cowboys on Aug. 22 and the Green Bay Packers on Aug. 28. Love also wasn't listed as the team's top running back on the first depth chart; that spot went to Tyler Allgeier, who signed a two-year, $12.25 million deal in the offseason.
Allgeier played all 17 games for Atlanta last season, starting two, with 514 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. Rookie quarterback Carson Beck, the No. 65 pick, will start for Arizona, serving as an audition behind starter Jacoby Brissett. The game airs at 8 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock.
