A Grievance Redressal Mechanism Is Available Via Call Centre, Customer Support, and Grievance Redressal Teams

The Indian government clarified that Bharat Taxi, a cooperative-based ride-hailing platform, is not meant to replace private app-based taxi aggregators like Ola and Uber. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha on 4 August, Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah said the platform aims to provide an alternative driver-centric and people-centric mobility model. He stated that no financial assistance, equity support, or incentives have been y Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited (STCL), is the country's first cooperative-led ride-hailing platform, registered under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002. It is supported by eight national cooperative institutions, including NCDC, IFFCO, Amul (GCMMF), KRIBHCO, NAFED, NABARD, NDDB, and NCEL.

The platform focuses on improving the economic and social well-being of drivers, known as Sarathis, while offering safe, reliable, and affordable transportation. Passenger safety is ensured through verification of Sarathis and vehicles before onboarding, maintenance of trip records, and coordination with authorities. Fares are determined through a transparent framework considering views of State Transport Authorities, Sarathi representatives, and other stakeholders, with revisions based on operational costs and local conditions.

A grievance redressal mechanism is available via Call Centre, Customer Support, and Grievance Redressal teams. Bharat Taxi operates in Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Chandigarh, with 8.27 lakh registered Sarathis as of 28 July 2026; Delhi-NCR has the highest number at 2.61 lakh. Expansion to other cities and states is decided by STCL, subject to operational requirements and approvals, and includes partnerships with airports, railway stations, metro systems, and public transport networks for last-mile connectivity. The objective of Bharat Taxi is not to replace any private app-based taxi aggregators; rather, it aims to provide an alternative driver-centric and people-centric mobility platform based on the cooperative model.
