Özel Revealed That 113,000 Donors Contributed 240 Million Turkish Liras in Five

At its first parliamentary group meeting, New Party leader Özgür Özel announced a radical overhaul of party organization, declaring that district councils of members, not district executives, will become the core political bodies. "The basic political organ is no longer the district executive board and district chair, but the district councils formed by you, the members, he said. Özel claimed the party became the main opposition on its founding day, stating, "We did not found the New Party just to have a party, but for it to come to power and bring the nation to power.
He said the public named the party and funds it through donations, promising full accountability. Özel revealed that 113,000 donors contributed 240 million Turkish liras in five days. We will continue to transparently share every donation we receive and every penny we spend with donors, public authorities, and the public, he said.
He stressed that members will directly elect district, provincial, and party leaders, with a three-term limit for all positions. Özel also pledged to resign if the party fails to win an election under his leadership. He challenged the ruling AK Party to pass a political ethics law, claiming President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan blocked EU visa liberalization by opposing transparency in political financing. The New Party was founded on July 24 with 91 lawmakers who left the CHP.
