BBC Radio 1 presenter Greg James announced the death of his chocolate Labrador, Barney, in an emotional Instagram post on Monday evening. James, who hosts the breakfast show, said the dog was put to sleep peacefully at home in the garden, adding that he "can't stop crying" and is "completely floored" by the loss. He asked fans not to send direct messages or bring up Barney for a while.

Charlie Hedges filled in on Tuesday morning, sending love to James and his wife, Bella Mackie. Barney, adopted from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in 2019, was a regular feature on James's show and social media. James previously raised over £4m for Comic Relief, with a final total of £4,225,939, boosted by a £100,000 donation from Coldplay.
