Rising Gasoline Prices Tied to the Iran Conflict Have Fueled Economic Worries, Eroding the GOP's Long-standing Edge on the İssue

Democrats have edged ahead of Republicans on handling the U.S. economy for the first time in nearly a decade, a /Ipsos poll found, as President Donald Trump's approval rating slipped to 35%. The survey of 4,505 U.S. adults, conducted Wednesday through Monday, showed 37% of registered voters favored Democrats on the economy versus 36% for Republicans, with a margin of error of about two percentage points. Rising gasoline prices tied to the Iran conflict have fueled economic worries, eroding the GOP's long-standing edge on the issue.
Trump's approval fell from 37% last month, nearing his lowest levels. Ahead of November's midterms, 42% of registered voters backed a Democratic congressional candidate versus 37% for a Republican, with independents favoring Democrats by 12 points. Control of Congress remains uncertain, hinging on competitive races. Trump dismissed the findings, insisting support for his administration is strong.
