This İs a Welcome Move - Helping Stabilise Prices Across Leisure, Business and İncentive Travel Besides Our Forex

Thomas Cook (India) Ltd. Managing Director and CEO Mahesh Iyer said the Reserve Bank of India's special USD-rupee forex swap facility, which lets banks mobilise tax-free FCNR(B) deposits from NR Is at higher interest rates, could boost forex inflows and help support the rupee and travel costs. This is a welcome move - helping stabilise prices across leisure, business and incentive travel besides our forex business, he said. Iyer noted NR Is can now earn up to 7.1 per cent annually on long-term USD deposits, up from a historical 3-4 per cent, which should result in higher forex inflows.
The company's Q1 FY27 results showed WhatsApp transactions in its digital forex business rose 84 per cent year-on-year to over ₹1,026 million from ₹559 million. App bookings grew nearly threefold to over 840 transactions from 223, while website bookings increased 38 per cent to over 1,200 from 866. Video KYC transactions surged ninefold to over 1,500 from 160. Digital adoption improved to 23.5 per cent from 21.6 per cent. The company opened forex counters at Delhi Airport T2 in June and T1 in July 2026, closed branches in Guwahati, Jaipur and Margao, and expanded its prepaid Forex Card portfolio to 28 currencies.
Consolidated total income declined 12 per cent to ₹21,530 million, while PBT fell 21 per cent to ₹885 million. Excluding GCC subsidiaries, EBIT grew 8 per cent.
