Berlin Are Investigating Suspected Serious Arson After A Fire Broke Out In A Refugee Accommodation In The Spandau District Early On Saturday

Authorities said a mattress caught fire in a hallway on the fourth floor of the building, with smoke spreading to the fifth and sixth floors and partially into residents' rooms. Several hundred residents of the six-story building were evacuated, according to the fire department. Around 74 emergency responders were deployed to extinguish the blaze.

Three people were taken to a hospital as a result of the fire. Two of them are receiving inpatient treatment for smoke inhalation. Police confirmed the suspicion of arson when asked by the press.
