During the meeting, Meta admitted errors in platform operations and acknowledged that "a lot of money was paid for boosting a certain type of content, according to PTI, citing government officials. The apology came after the government summoned Meta executives over the July 23 incident, when Modi's post addressing examination paper leaks was briefly restricted due to a technical glitch in its AI-powered content filtering system. Before meeting Vaishnaw, Kaplan and his team held separate discussions with IT Secretary S Krishnan.

The government argued that Meta cannot be considered a neutral "intermediary under India's Information Technology Act because its algorithms actively curate and recommend content, potentially disqualifying it from safe harbour protection under Section 79. Officials said Meta could lose this legal immunity if it fails to comply with obligations and if an unqualified apology from CEO Mark Zuckerberg is not issued. The talks also covered child sexual abuse material, deepfakes, protections for verified accounts, algorithmic bias, and adherence to Indian laws. Meta is implementing enhanced scrutiny and additional safeguards for content from prominent figures to prevent similar incidents. Sources added that the company would be summoned again for further discussions.
