Symptoms Include Fever, Cough, Runny, Red Eyes, or Rash; Those Affected Should Stay Home and Call Ahead Before Visiting a Medical Facility

Los Angeles County health officials issued a public alert after an individual with measles visited Universal Studios Hollywood on Sunday, July 26, potentially exposing park-goers between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. Anyone present during that window should monitor for symptoms until August 16. Unvaccinated individuals face higher risk, while those with prior infection or MMR vaccination are generally protected. "As measles cases increase, it is important that residents take steps to make sure they are fully protected, said Los Angeles County Health Officer Dr. Muntu Davis. "The MMR vaccine is the safest and most reliable way to prevent measles and protect yourself, your family and your community.
Officials urged residents to review vaccination records, especially before travel, and to contact a provider if pregnant, immunocompromised, or with an exposed infant under 12 months. Symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, or rash; those affected should stay home and call ahead before visiting a medical facility. Measles spreads through air and can linger for hours.
Two MMR doses are about 97 percent effective. As of July 31, 2,371 cases have been reported nationwide this year, mostly linked to outbreaks from 2025 and 2026. Los Angeles County last reported a case on July 21.
