Hassabis Said He Will Work Closely With Pichai on Strategic and Global AGI Matters and Advise Kavukcuoglu

Google announced major AI leadership changes on Wednesday, with Demis Hassabis becoming chair of Google DeepMind and chief scientist at Alphabet, while continuing to lead Isomorphic Labs. Koray Kavukcuoglu, formerly DeepMind's CTO, steps up as Google's SVP of DeepMind, reporting to CEO Sundar Pichai and remaining chief AI architect. Hassabis said he will work closely with Pichai on strategic and global AGI matters and advise Kavukcuoglu.

In another shift, Jeff Dean, chief scientist of Google DeepMind and Google's 30th employee, is leaving with Google Fellow Sanjay Ghemawat to form an AI-focused public benefit corporation called Discovery Loop, with Google as a founding investor. The company aims to build AI solutions that solve problems in machine learning, science, and engineering.
