Measles Cases Hit 35-Year High As MMR Vaccination Rates Drop
Measles cases have reached a 35-year high, according to federal data, as MMR vaccination rates have declined since before the pandemic.
The findings come as federal data shows MMR vaccination rates have dropped since before the pandemic, with measles cases at a 35-year high. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has questioned vaccine safety, though he recently urged people to get the MMR shot. President Donald Trump has suggested splitting the vaccine, citing unproven concerns.
The CDC, under Kennedy, updated its webpage in November to say studies have not ruled out a link, drawing criticism from the American Academy of Pediatrics. A 1998 study by Andrew Wakefield, later retracted, fueled misinformation; his medical license was revoked. These results reinforce existing evidence supporting the safety of MMR vaccination, the CDC said.
