Concacaf Nations Weigh Withdrawing Support for Fifa President Infantino

Several Concacaf nations are weighing whether to withdraw their backing for Fifa president Gianni Infantino, following Europe's lead. All 41 members of the confederation, covering North America, Central America, and the Caribbean, reportedly submitted endorsement letters for Infantino's re-election before the World Cup, but many now consider retracting them. Finland was the first of Fifa's 211 member associations to publicly pull its support last Thursday, with Wales' FA following on Monday.

Concacaf held an emergency meeting last Friday, where attendees indicated strong alignment with Uefa's push for Infantino's exit. Some members pledged to withdraw support, and a few may have already done so privately. A hurdle for Concacaf is that four members—the United States, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Jamaica—are bidding to host the 2031 Women's World Cup, a decision Fifa will approve in November. The US Soccer Federation is reportedly unhappy with Infantino, especially over backlash from his dealings with Donald Trump regarding the Folarin Balogun affair, but may avoid confrontation due to political sensitivities.
