Operation Sindoor: India's Response to Pahalgam Attack
Former Indian Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan revealed that Pakistan requested a ceasefire on the morning of May 10, 2025, during Operation Sindoor, but India deliberately delayed its response until the afternoon because it had not yet executed half of its planned strikes.
Speaking at ThePrint's Off The Cuff event, Chauhan said Pakistan contacted India via the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) hotline around 9 or 9:30 a.m., just eight hours after threatening to sort India out in 48 hours. He attributed Pakistan's urgency to Indian Air Force strikes on key Pakistani airbases, including Sargodha and Noor Khan, which were hit around midnight and early morning, crippling Pakistan's ability to generate sorties. Chauhan noted that Pakistani planners believed their own attacks between 1 a.m. and 9 a.m. had inflicted significant damage, prompting them to seek talks. Operation Sindoor was India's response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025, which killed 26 tourists, 25 of them Indian.
