Court Extends Detention of Gaza Hospital Director Without Charges

Hamas-affiliated Prisoners Media Office said Dr. Husam Abu Safiyye, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital detained by Israel in the Gaza Strip in December 2024, suffered broken ribs from torture, including an attack on July 27 described as his worst day in custody.

The statement said Abu Safiyye, held in the Rakefet section of Nitzan Prison, faced repeated assaults, medical neglect, and was kept in solitary confinement for 21 days. It added that during his transfer to Rakefet on June 24, 2026, he was beaten and had a rib broken. Despite worsening health conditions including heart trouble, hypertension, neck pain, a herniated disc, eye issues, and dizziness, prison authorities provided only sedatives.

Israel's army raided Kamal Adwan Hospital in December 2024, claiming Hamas used it as a command center and suspecting Abu Safiyye of Hamas membership. On April 28, the Beersheba District Court extended his detention under the Unlawful Combatants Law without charges.
