Man Found Dead in Prison Cell After Riot Sentence

Lynch was found dead at HMP Moorland, near Doncaster, on 19 October 2024, two months after being sentenced to two years and eight months for his involvement in the August 2024 riots outside the Holiday Inn Express in Manvers, Rotherham. The inquest heard that Lynch had been reported for alleged racist comments two days before his death, after expressing views that asylum seekers "are all rapists and paedophiles and should not be allowed in the country" during a random drug test. Senior Doncaster coroner Nicola Mundy directed the jury to return a suicide conclusion, which they did on Wednesday.

CCTV showed Lynch entering his cell at 4.29pm on 18 October, and a staff member delivered adjudication papers through a crack in his door later that evening. He was found dead at 6.29am the next morning after an officer raised the alarm at roll-call. Lynch had been arrested on 4 August 2024 after being photographed holding a placard alleging corruption among MPs, judges, media, and police, and was filmed challenging riot police. Judge Jeremy Richardson KC said at sentencing that Lynch did not attack officers but encouraged others to behave violently.
