Global Affairs Officer Joel Kaplan, Met IT Secretary S Krishnan and Other Senior Meity Officials in New Delhi on Wednesday for a 45-Minute
The government raised concerns about wrongful action on prominent posts and lapses in curbing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) on the platform. The team is also scheduled to meet Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw later in the day. The meeting follows Meta's apology for the technical glitch that briefly restricted Modi's July 23 post addressing Indian youth and promising action against paper leaks, which the ministry found inadequate.
Krishnan told reporters that issues including CSAM, synthetic content, and safeguards for verified accounts were raised, and he questioned why Meta's technology was not working as intended. Government sources said the issue involves national security and public order, and Meta will be asked to clarify algorithmic bias and its role in public order. Meta had informed the ministry that posts by the PM and prominent accounts would receive additional oversight. A parliamentary standing committee on Wednesday demanded an apology from Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg over the removal of Modi's speech.
