European Union Has Pledged €11 Million for a New Initiative to Boost Livestock Production, Enhance Food Security, and Help Vulnerable Afghan

The EU delegation stated the program will improve livestock management, increase local food output, and support households facing economic and environmental strain. It is expected to reach around 300,000 families across 17 provinces, focusing on rural areas dependent on agriculture and livestock. The funding arrives amid Afghanistan's severe humanitarian crisis, with the UN World Food Programme reporting 14 million Afghans facing acute food insecurity and critical child malnutrition in several provinces.
Climate change, including droughts and water shortages, has worsened the situation, particularly hitting the livestock sector. The EU emphasized long-term support to build sustainable livelihoods rather than relying solely on emergency aid. This contribution is part of broader international efforts to bolster food production, rural development, and climate resilience in Afghanistan.
