4.5 Years in Prison for Nasuh Mahruki, Former Head of the AKUT Search-and-rescue Association, Over a Social Media Post About the July 15

Mahruki was detained on July 16, 2026, and arrested the following day. The indictment alleges his tweet, which described the coup attempt as a game, incited hatred and hostility. It notes his 571,100 followers and about 76,300 views of the post.

Mahruki denied the charges in his statement to prosecutors, saying he did not understand how the accusation was derived from his post. The Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office completed the investigation, and the indictment seeks a sentence of 1.5 to 4.5 years on charges of publicly inciting hatred or hostility.
