The Scheme Involved Inflating the Value of Low-priced Properties Through Fake Appraisal Reports and Sham Sales

Justice Minister Akın Gürlek announced that 72 suspects were detained in an operation targeting a criminal network that fraudulently granted Turkish citizenship. The scheme involved inflating the value of low-priced properties through fake appraisal reports and sham sales. Authorities issued detention orders for 90 suspects, with arrests carried out across 16 provinces centered on Istanbul.
Seven companies were seized and trustees appointed, while 1,045 properties, a hotel in Bodrum, 15 motor vehicles, a yacht, and 10 bank accounts were confiscated. The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office also initiated legal proceedings to revoke the citizenship of 687 individuals who obtained it through these fraudulent means. Gürlek stated that approximately 2.5 billion lira that should have entered the country was not, with fictitious money movements created instead, and that benefits were obtained from foreign nationals seeking citizenship.
